Each year, Earth Day and America Recycles Day are special days that people can promote their positive environmental efforts and commit to more recycling at home, work and school. Although the Governor of North Dakota typically proclaims "North Dakota Recycles Day" each November 15, it is nationally, America Recycles Day (ARD). ARD is now part of Keep America Beautiful. Earth Day is celebrated April 22 each year.
North Dakota Recycles Day
Here's a note from our state ARD coordinator, Christy Smith at the ND Deparment of Health (701-328-5266 or christysmith(at)nd.gov). If you are planning a recycling event for America Recycles Day (November 15th), you can enter it yourself using the link provided below, or contact Christy.
Help us make recycling work in America.
More than a celebration, America Recycles Day is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to the promotion of recycling programs in the United States. One day to inform and educate. One day to get our neighbors, friends and community leaders excited about what can be accomplished when we all work together. One day to make recycling bigger and better-365 days a year. Let's make recycling work in our communities.

Earth Day
Many events also take place on or surrounding Earth Day, celebrated April 22nd. Some include campus or school recycling challenges, festivals, art features, computer or household hazardous waste round-ups and more. The Fargo-Moorhead area Earth Week Committee has a site that lists information and activities going on around this time. There is also an Earth Day Festival that takes place in Bismarck each April. The Emmons County Soil Conservation District is the contact for this event. See the "events and activities page" on this site.
